A former TV Production bootcamper from Solihull College & University Centre is succeeding in the TV industry after securing roles behind the scenes on several top shows.
Maddy Scott, 29, has had a busy couple of years. Keen to get into TV, film and theatre, she initially graduated with a hair and media make-up degree.
She comments: “I really wanted to do TV but wasn’t sure how to do it! So, I focused on barbering and got a job with a session stylist. I applied to work on Late Night Lycett and was picked to be one of just 8 full time trainees out of over 1000 applicants. I realised it was definitely where I wanted to be.”
When Maddy was at Late Night Lycett, she was told about the TV Production Bootcamp – a free course at Solihull College & University Centre funded by the West Midlands Combined Authority. Maddy says the bootcamp was invaluable to her climbing up the career ladder: “It was helpful as I was new to TV, and I didn’t know anything about the different roles or terminology. It really helped me get my foot on the ladder and figure out where I would like to end up.”
Maddy then worked on the Great British Menu, The Banquet in Paris, The Last Leg and even went to the Baftas after her stint on Late Night Lycett!
Maddy is also booked to work on the next series of The Great British Menu which is starting to film this month. In between all this, Maddy has opened her own salon in Worcester called Wilde Hair Studio at the Market Hall, where she likes to get creative and put her artistic skills to good use.
Reflecting on her time at the College, Maddy comments: “The Bootcamp was incredible and it’s almost unbelievable it’s free. I really struggled as an academic, but this was perfect for me. The support is insane. My tutors Sophie and Caroline were always there to give advice, it was the perfect mix of information and experience. The network opportunities to build relationships were invaluable. I’m desperate to get more time to do another one!”
