A group of artists from Solihull College & University Centre will be launching a dynamic new virtual exhibition this month.
Sixteen art students from across the degree and foundation art courses at the College will be exhibiting work at their event The Show Must Go On under the group’s name Nova Create. The virtual exhibition will be alongside a physical version, open only to college students, which will take place at the College’s Blossomfield Campus. Photographers, fine artists, and graphic designers have come together in a fusion of artistic talent.
Hayley Cartwright, 22 from Sheldon is one of the exhibitors. She states: “It has been brilliant to have something to focus on at a time like this. Last academic year we weren’t able to create an event because of the pandemic so this has been great to do. It is also the first time we have collaborated with the foundation group.”
Virtual visitors will be greeted with pieces from a number of talented young artists, including photographer Michelle Walker from the Creative Art & Design Practice Top Up course. Michelle presents a documentary photography piece called 14:00 depicting life as she lived it during the Covid-19 pandemic. Taking the same photograph every day at 2pm for 31 days she depicts the monotony of existing for some during the pandemic.
Artist Gabrielle Paul from the Foundation Art & Design course explores the different aspects of human nature, identity, and spirituality in her work. Her exhibition piece, a painting of flowers and the female body, was inspired by the effects of nature on emotional health and is also reflective of her views on feminism and female empowerment.
The virtual exhibition goes live from the 14th December and anyone visiting is invited to donate to The Colebridge Trust. To take a look at the virtual exhibition and support the student’s work, please visit The Show Must Go On.
