Hundreds of people turned out recently to support Solihull College & University Centre’s annual Remembrance Parade, as students from several departments teamed up as part of a collaborative project.
Uniformed Protective Services (UPS) students spend weeks practising in their Skills Academy Sessions and were on display in front of the Mayor of Solihull Councillor Diana Holl-Allen MBE.
Level 3 Digital Media Production students were on hand to film the event alongside the College’s Reach students (part of the College’s Foundation Learning department) who were also filming as part of an assessment. They will now spend the new few weeks editing the footage and there will be a special screening for students once completed.
Level 3 UPS student Tami Odeyale signed the National Anthem, increasing accessibility of the event, with the Digital Media team setting up the sound system.
ALD/Reach lecturer, Andy Smith, commented: “It was a fabulous team effort working collaboratively across three areas. Students of differing abilities and needs working together on a collective goal. Long may it continue.”
Creative Media Technician, Callum O’Connor, commented: “We are incredibly proud of the skills and initiative displayed by this collaborative project involving Creative Media, Uniformed Protective Services, and Reach students. The respect that the students showed for the event itself and the people involved will always be a highlight for the staff supporting these learners. We hope this display of collaboration continues not only between Creative Media, UPS and Reach, but also across different courses and campuses.”
This was a real team effort with students from different departments all working together, increasing their skillset and showcasing their talent.
