Construction of a brand-new bricklaying workshop has recently been completed at Solihull College & University Centre’s Woodlands Campus in Smith’s Wood.
The workshop has been built by local construction company, Chiel Construction, who have extensive experience working on educational sites such as the University of Birmingham. Three of the College’s current Bricklaying students had the opportunity to support Chiel Construction with the project.
Students developed their skills and gained hands-on practice with support and guidance from industry experts
Bricklaying Lecturer, Alan McDermott explains: “These students have been with me for the past two years and it is a great opportunity for them to have this site experience with a team of experienced bricklayers. The industry experience will be very valuable as they launch their careers.”
The new bricklaying workshop is the fourth to be built at the College’s Woodlands Campus. With rising demand for the bricklaying course, the College is investing in new facilities to help with local and regional skills needs.
