With work now underway on Solihull’s Low Carbon Energy Network, students and staff from Solihull College & University Centre have been finding out more thanks to a drop-in session at the College’s Blossomfield Campus.
Vital Energi, who are delivering the scheme, offered students and staff the chance to ask questions and discuss phases of the project. The session was the start of an active engagement and communications programme running alongside the installation.
The project is already taking shape – phase one customer agreements have been signed to supply heat to Solihull College & University Centre, Tudor Grange Academy, The Core Library and Tudor Grange Leisure Centre.
Once up and running, the Council’s new District Energy Network will deliver heat and hot water into the taps, radiators, and heating systems of these connected town centre buildings.
Utilising low carbon solutions, including air source heat pumps, the energy will be generated at a centralised new energy centre, located next to Tudor Grange Leisure Centre, and distributed to individual buildings via a system of underground pipes and cables.
At the drop-in session, representatives were on-hand to provide an overview of the project, share information and answer any queries as well as offering advice on green jobs career opportunities and work experience.
College students studying Construction & the Built Environment took the opportunity to drop in to learn more and asked some really insightful questions.
