Solihull College & University Centre has partnered with Complete Cricket to offer a cricket academy to students who wish to pursue a career in the professional game.
The College already runs a number of sporting academies including football, golf, netball and basketball. The academy, which will be based at Solihull College & University Centre’s Blossomfield Campus, will allow students who have a passion for cricket and would like to focus on the sport as part of their career, a chance to gain the professional qualifications needed to progress. Students will also have the chance to receive a high standard of coaching to enable athletes to improve their game as part of the academy.
Head of School for Sport at Solihull College & University Centre, Phil Trilloe commented: “This is an outstanding and unique opportunity for any student athlete who wants to combine academic studies with their sporting passion of cricket.
“The level of expertise the students will access in both their academic studies and cricket coaching with Complete Cricket will be exceptional. Complete cricket are an outstanding partner to work with to support our vision of having the best cricket academy in the Midlands in the near future.”
Complete Cricket has strong links with Warwickshire County Cricket Club along with a number of other local counties and was established in 2007. It has already proven to be extremely popular and aims to continue the success by working with Solihull College & University Centre to offer young athletes the opportunity to progress in the professional game.
Former England and Warwickshire County Cricket Club professional Jim Troughton commented on his partnership with Complete Cricket: “I am very happy to be associated with Complete Cricket Coaching. It offers a well organised and thoughtful cricketing experience that is tailored to the needs of its young cricketers. Youngsters have the opportunity to work with accomplished coaches and a variety of ex and current first class players of the county game.”
As part of the academy at Solihull College & University Centre students would receive 10 hours of cricket coaching per week alongside their academic studies. Students will gain 2 professional coaching qualifications including an ECB Level 2 qualification and alongside this will complete their mandatory work experience with Complete Cricket at a variety of their camps around the Midlands. The aspiring cricketers will also take part in winter and summer fixtures throughout the academic year to put what they learn into practice.
Solihull College & University Centre is looking forward to the opening the academy in September and is hoping to introduce a female cricket academy in the near future.
