College to help fill UK shortage of teachers and healthcare professionals

In recent years the UK has experienced a shortage of nurses, midwives, psychologists, teachers, nursery nurses and other related professions. Just last year the BBC reported that tens of thousands of NHS nursing and doctor posts currently lie vacant, which is equivalent to 9% of the workforce in the UK. As well as this, there is reportedly currently a large shortage of teachers within the UK.

Solihull College & University Centre offers a variety of courses for all age groups to allow individuals to train within many of these areas and help to fill the shortage of the skills that are so vital within the UK.

Studying courses at Solihull College such as diplomas and foundation degrees in Health and Social Care and CACHE Certificate in Childcare and Education course amongst many others, gives learners the chance to start their journey within the industry and gain the career they desire. As someone leaving school, wanting a university qualification or as a mature student wanting to change your career, Solihull College & University Centre can cater to your needs.

On Tuesday 2nd May between 5:30pm-6:30pm the College will be hosting an Care and Education Introduction Evening for adult learners at its Blossomfield Campus, Solihull. Prospective students will be able to meet the tutors, see the facilities in which the courses take place and ask any questions about starting a course at Solihull College.

Linda McLaughlin, Head of School for Health & Social Care and Early Years at Solihull College, commented “Careers within the health and education sectors are undoubtedly ones that will always be needed; jobs within these industries are vital within the UK and the courses that we offer at Solihull College & University Centre will give people the necessary skills to pursue them. As a College we are able to train students in a variety of different areas as well as give them industry experience which they will be able to transfer to a working environment. It is essential that we fill the shortage of jobs in the UK to ensure that our healthcare and education sectors are successful.”

There are a variety of courses on offer at the College and the evening on 2nd May aims to give learners all the information they need to make the first step to becoming a care and education professional.
