Monday, 1 September, 2014

Following 12 weeks of hard work, personal discovery and relationship building, a group of unemployed young people last night celebrated successfully completing the Prince’s Trust Team programme at Solihull College, with the Mayor of Solihull, Cllr Kate Wild in attendance.

Cllr Kate Wild followed the Team throughout the programme, visiting them in Chelmsley Wood during their Community Project; and last night, along with parents and relatives joined the students for their Final Presentation at the Blossomfield Campus.
Many of the young people who enter the Prince’s Trust 12 week Team programme are in or leaving care, facing issues such as homelessness or mental health problems, or they have been in trouble with the law. During the presentation they each speak of their own personal journey over the past 12 weeks and their hopes for the future.

Mayor of Solihull, Cllr Kate Wild comments: “??This has been a moving experience for the young people and I am incredibly proud with what they have achieved and also the dedication from the Prince’s Trust Team here at the College. These young people are a credit to the College and it has been a joy to follow their journey throughout the 12 weeks”?.

Following the presentation, Cllr Kate Wild commented on their achievements and told the young people, “??You all now know how important you are”?, and, to the delight of the Team, invited them to the Mayor’s Parlour for tea.

Solihull College Principal, John Callaghan was also there to congratulate the group, he comments:”??The stories of these young people are remarkable, to face such tremendous personal hurdles and to come through the other side with hope, is inspiring. I am pleased the work of the College’s Prince’s Trust Team has had such a positive impact on these students and that we can continue to play a role in their future from September”?.

The group of students, who range from 16-25 years of age, enter the 12 week programme at the College in order to gain work-ready skills and the confidence to find employment. Three-in-four students who are supported by the College’s Prince’s Trust Team move into education, employment or training.
