New university IT qualification arrives
Thursday, 6 March, 2014

From September 2014, Solihull College will become the only college in the Midlands, and second in the country to offer a qualification training IT professionals and young people to use the world’s largest business software.

The College is offering learners the chance to become certified in Systems Applications and Products in Data Processing (SAP). With over 100,000 customers world-wide, SAP is used by 70 per cent of Fortune 100 Top Companies including Apple, PepsiCo and Porsche.

SAP works as a central system within a company, saving money and time compared to running individual systems for processes such as payroll, sales, attendance and HR. There is currently a global skills shortage among computing professionals who can build and use these solutions.

Patrick Geary is Head of School for Computing at the College, he comments: “We have already had significant interest from students regarding this course; it really is quite an exclusive opportunity for computing and IT learners and professionals. With the SAPs certification it can allow you to work anywhere in the world”?.

During their time on the Level 5 HND Enterprise Information Systems, students will acquire a broad mix of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the analysis, design, development and evaluation of enterprise systems solutions within a commercial context.

The course will be run from the brand new ?£5.1 million School of Computing currently under construction at the Blossomfield Campus, due for completion in August 2014. The new facility will incorporate 13 new air conditioned IT rooms, and 3 standard theory based classrooms. The College is investing ?£400,000 in new equipment including new PC’s, Mac’s and SMART Boards, with Wi-Fi accessible throughout.
