Media students volunteer time to film theatre performance
Tuesday, 2 February, 2016

Solihull College & University Centre’s Level 3 Extended Diploma Media students Kadira Ali and Darnell Anderson-Lloyd, have volunteered their time to gain valuable work experience and showcase their talents in the filming of a pantomime.

Students from the College have previously worked with the theatre to film and edit productions and this year was no different. Both students used their initiative to organise the opportunity and travelled from Birmingham to Rugby in January to help the community of Rugby with the filming of the annual performance of Jack and the Beanstalk at Rugby Theatre.

Both Kadira and Darnell received great feedback from all involved as they showed extreme professionalism throughout, even when battling with a large audience of 270 people. Mike Allen, the shows Director stated “It’s always nice to have students from Solihull College here because they are so professional and polite. We are grateful to Solihull College for this and they are always welcome – long may it continue.”

Kadira and Darnell will now be involved with the editing of the DVD which will be screened for cast, crew and guests. Kadira commented “It was a good experience to go out there and shoot a theatre performance as I have not done that before.” Darnell added “It was a great and engaging tale that was performed by brilliant actors. It was great to film this wonderful performance.”

As work experience is a vital part of the curriculum in further education the students have done extremely well to gain this experience in a real life project that they will be able to see and work on from start to finish. They will now be able to use their industry experience as well as their knowledge they have learnt whilst studying for future projects.
