Thursday, 2 November, 2017

The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Stuart Davis, recently visited Solihull College & University Centre’s Woodlands Campus and was thrilled with what they had to offer for young people.

The recently expanded campus now incorporates a specialist centre for construction skills including plastering, carpentry, painting & decorating and bricklaying as well an expanded motor vehicle training facility.

The Mayor was given a tour of the new centre, including the new Engineering and Construction facilities, which accommodate MOT and engine workshops. The College also recently acquired a BAe Jetstream T Mk2 aircraft that aerospace engineering students have access to work with in the aircraft hangar on campus. The Mayor even managed to land a plane using their Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft simulator.

The Mayor said: ‘I was thrilled with the facilities at Solihull College & University Centre. Seeing the students in action and speaking to them about their courses was a pleasure. I particularly enjoyed the aircraft simulator and will be telling many people about how I landed a plane!’

John Callaghan, College Principal said: ‘We are extremely proud of the facilities here at Woodlands Campus. It was a pleasure to welcome the Mayor to see what young people in the region have available to them after finishing secondary school’.
