Event Planning students at Solihull College & University Centre held a fundraising event at Blossomfield Campus last week called The Big Cosy Tea party. The group raised an impressive £594 for Breast Cancer Haven located in Olton. Held through the entire month of March, #TheBigTeaCosy 2018 was Breast Cancer Haven’s national fundraising campaign in support of people affected by breast cancer.
The students created a raffle, held a bake sale, a cake competition, sold cups of tea and had a tombola amongst other activities. Local sponsors contributed prizes. Hogarths Hotel, Waitrose, Club Vitalize, The Entertainers, Hatton Farm, and The Snowdome contributed to name but a few.
Since Haven opened in October 2017 the centre has supported over 210 women and 1 gentleman diagnosed with breast cancer in the local area.
The students aimed to raise money for Breast Cancer Haven as they provide free emotional, physical and practical support to anyone affected by breast cancer from the centres across the country. Just £1000 can support one person throughout his/her whole treatment.
College Bake Off competition winner, Learning Support Assistant Helen Gomersall won the bake off at the event. Helen’s cake was a heart shape Easter themed cake featuring creme eggs on top.
Students worked tirelessly to ensure money was raised, events were well organised, sponsors were found and customer service was second to none.
