The Greater Birmingham and Solihull Institute of Technology (GBSIoT) is delighted to have secured an extension of its license with the Department for Education (DfE) to operate as an Institute of Technology for an additional ten years.
This extension is a great achievement, demonstrating the dedication of the GBSIoT team and partners, including lead partner Solihull College & University Centre. Over the past five years, the GBSIoT has shown its commitment to excellence in education and training, and this new agreement allows the mission to evolve the skills landscape to continue.
In the past year, the GBSIoT Hub has welcomed over 2,000 visitors, hosting a range of activities such as teaching and training sessions, CPD masterclasses for both teachers and students, and employer meetings. Notably, the ‘Supporting Women into Engineering’ initiative has demonstrated a commitment to diversity and inclusion in the sector.
The Learning Factory has served over a thousand learners, including pioneering T-Level students who have undertaken projects set by our Employer Board. This facility has also supported many undergraduate and postgraduate students in their applied research projects, reinforcing the Learning Factory’s role as a hub for practical learning, technical skills, and innovation.
Entering the fifth year of the Licence Agreement with the DfE, the GBSIoT is proud to have engaged over 3,000 young people through STEM lessons and activities. These outreach efforts are crucial for inspiring the next generation and ensuring a skilled pipeline of talent for the future.
Principal of Lead Partner Solihull College & University Centre, Dr Rebecca Gater, comments: “We are delighted to have our license extended by the DfE, marking a significant milestone in our commitment to excellence in education and training. This decade-long extension is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team and partners. We look forward to continuing to innovate and inspire the next generation, ensuring a skilled workforce ready to meet the challenges of the future.”
CEO of Worcester Bosch and Chair of the GBSIoT Board, Carl Arntzen, expressed his gratitude, saying: “As Chair of GBSIoT, I extend my thanks to all our colleagues and partners for their relentless hard work, passion, and collaboration. It is your dedication that has made GBSIoT the success it is today. Looking ahead, we are excited about the next five years. Together, we will make an even greater impact for the benefit of our residents, learners, and employers. Together we are stronger.”
The GBSIoT remains committed to fostering innovation and excellence in education and training. The next decade promises developments, as it navigates the emerging skills landscape with renewed vigour.
