Esports students from Solihull College & University Centre have been engaging in a variety of enriching practical experiences in order to position them at the forefront of the emerging Esports industry.
Students recently had the opportunity to participate in ESL One Birmingham 2024, a three-day premier Esports event held at Solihull’s Resorts World Arena. This event served as an invaluable work placement, allowing students to gain first-hand experience in event management, live broadcasting, and team coordination.

Esports and Computing Lecturer, Antony Stafford, comments: “It’s been truly inspiring to see the students thrive. They’re not only enjoying the course and its practical elements, but their unique backgrounds and diverse abilities bring a richness to the learning experience. The course is designed to cater to and celebrate this diversity, and witnessing their growth has been a rewarding experience.”
Additionally, as part of the Health, Wellbeing, and Fitness unit, students explored local resources to enhance their physical and mental health. They engaged in a unique work experience at Flash Climbing Centre, an initiative organised after a representative from the centre delivered an inspiring talk at the College. This hands-on experience not only improved their physical fitness but also provided insights into maintaining a balanced lifestyle essential for Esports professionals.
