An Esports student from Solihull College & University Centre has secured his place to study games design at the College of Esports in London just a few months after he finished in the top ten at a Worldskills Game Jam event.
Matthew Hinson surpassed all expectations by doing so well in the WorldSkills Game Jam at the end of last year as he was competing solo against teams of 2 or 4 players from across the country. This placed him at a significant disadvantage, making the top 10 result even more impressive.
The aim of the competition was to show the skills of game development, with Matthew having to create a game under time constraints.

Esports and Computing Lecturer, Anthony Stafford, is delighted with Matthew’s progress. He comments: “I am extremely proud of Matthew in achieving an outstanding 9th place among all participating institutions in the WorldSkills Game Jam. He dedicated a lot of his own personal time to this project and it’s a remarkable accomplishment given that he competed against teams of four students when he was entering on his own. This clearly shows his drive, ambition and commitment to pursue a career in game’s development.”
Matthew is keen to progress his skills and will enrol at the College of Esports for his university level study later this year. He comments: “The growing popularity of Esports is great. I would like to get involved in more tournaments and I love the fact I am responsible for creating something unique.”
Matthew has received a digital badge from WorldSkills UK and the College has awarded Matthew a voucher to recognise his efforts.
