A computing apprentice from Solihull College & University Centre is looking to the future after winning a major award.
Owain Perkins, an Apprentice Security Operations Analyst in the cyber team for SCC in Birmingham, recently won Apprentice of the Year at the Insider West Midlands Young Professional Awards.
The judges were impressed with Owain’s deep understanding of various cyber security issues, tools and techniques. His skill in identifying security incidents, analysing malware, and implementing effective defence strategies was something the judges said set him apart from his peers. Owain has also taken part in several charity events supporting the Royal British Legion.
Owain was delighted to win. He comments: “I am immensely grateful for this award. Being recognised for my hard work and dedication means the world to me. This motivates me to work even harder towards achieving my goals. Thank you for this incredible honour.”
Owain’s former Apprentice Assessor at Solihull College & University Centre, Nick Mapp, is delighted. “From the start of Owain’s Apprenticeship he has shown a mature and responsible attitude to his work both in his employment and his academic work with the apprenticeship standard.
“During difficult times over the last 3 years, and having to often work remotely, he has communicated and responded to all his targets and working responsibilities for his employment and his apprenticeship, using the guidance and supervision given by both the College and his employer effectively, often exceeding expectations and the aims and responsibility of his job role.
“Working with Owain has been a pleasure due to his polite and calm attitude to resolving difficult and ever emerging challenging issues.”
