With recent award accolades within further education recognising Solihull College’s leadership in digital and social media, the College is pleased to announce they have been selected as a finalist for the Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce Business Awards 2014. The College is one of five finalists hoping to win the award for ‘Excellence in the use of Social Media’.

The College, who won the Gold Award for the ‘Innovative Use of Technology’ in 2013 at the FE First Awards, are delighted with this recognition. The marketing team behind the work have been recognised by the Chamber for their strategic use of social media to drive interest towards their digital marketing.

Sean Howitt, Marketing Officer at the College implements the digital and social media strategy, he comments: “We are constantly trying to push the boundaries by finding new and innovative ways to utilise digital media. The success we’ve had targeting our audience through promotion on social media platforms is something we hope to continue developing in the future”?.

Along with Facebook, the College actively engages with Twitter and YouTube, using highly targeted boost posts and promoted Tweets to drive traffic towards the website.

Beginning in 2010, the College made the decision to move away from the printed prospectus and to focus their marketing strategy towards digital and online. The College now boasts an award winning interactive digital prospectus, TYP – one of the first among FE colleges in the country.

The College’s use and innovation of digital has seen videos go viral, including a Dynamo-style magic video with magician Christian Fletcher and a crossbar challenge used to promote the College’s successful Football Academy.
