Respect, reward and recognition of staff; these are the main values that Solihull College has shown commitment in to be awarded the prestigious Gold Standard by Investors in People (IIP). Of the 16 per cent of UK businesses who are accredited with the IIP Standard, less than 1 per cent are awarded the Gold Standard, thus proving what a remarkable achievement this is by the College.
Having been reassessed in June 2013 and accredited with the IIP standard, the College requested a ‘??top-up’ review to be assessed for Bronze, Silver or Gold recognition.
This is a far more detailed review against an extended framework of 196 evidence requirements; Solihull College met 96 per cent of these requirements – surpassing the goal of 85 per cent needed to be awarded Gold Standard.
Brenda Sheils, Principal and Chief Executive Officer at the College comments, “??This is an incredible achievement for Solihull College – a true testament of the dedication of our staff. To be awarded the Gold Standard is remarkable, a proud moment for the College to be not only recognised in business, but in the development of our staff”?.
In line with the College’s overall business priorities it was agreed that the College would be assessed against its five Core Values; Inspiring and Supporting Students to Succeed, Striving for Excellence Exceeding Expectations, Recognising Our Responsibility, Respecting Each Other and Sharing Caring and Working Together.
The Gold Standard through IIP was met by the College demonstrating they are driving the business through key elements, such as commitment to people, recognition and rewards and staff development and learning. The assessor also saw a continuous focus and positive approach to improvement, a real team spirit where staff work together and a genuine commitment to flexible work patterns and meeting individual needs.
The College employs around 600 staff across two campuses; Blossomfield and Woodlands. Both campuses have seen major redevelopment during the past few years, there is currently a new £5.1 million Computing block being built on the Blossomfield Campus due to open in September 2014.
