College to sponsor first annual Solihull Pride

14th March 2025

Solihull College & University Centre has been announced as a sponsor of Solihull’s first ever Pride celebration.

In a recent announcement, Solihull Business Improvement District declared Solihull will host its first ever Pride celebration on Saturday 6th September 2025.

With collaboration from several businesses based in and around the town centre, plans are well underway for the day, including a walking parade and musical and comedy guests taking the stage in Mell Square.

The announcement during LGBT+ History month is significant. The month-long event raises awareness for the history of the LGBT+ community (lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, trans and non-binary) and an opportunity to recognise and celebrate leading figures of the community who have fought for LGBT+ rights throughout the past decades.

Alongside the College’s sponsorship, Solihull Pride has been made possible thanks to support from Headline Sponsor npower Business Solutions (nBS) and Associate Sponsors BNP Paribas Personal Finance, CGI, and Touchwood.

The College is proud to be a sponsor for this historic event. Principal, Rebecca Gater, commented: “At Solihull College & University Centre, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all. We are incredibly proud to sponsor Solihull’s first-ever Pride, celebrating diversity and championing equality within our college and the wider community. This event marks a significant step forward in ensuring visibility, representation, and belonging for the LGBTQ+ community in Solihull, and we look forward to celebrating together.”

College Pride Network Lead and member of the Solihull Pride steering group, Sarah Breslin, commented: “Having grown up in Solihull I’m thrilled we’re finally hosting our very own Pride event. The visibility and representation is so important for people in the LGBTQ+ community and Pride offers a real sense of belonging within the town and the Borough. It’s going to be a fantastic celebration for anyone who wants to be involved, for those within the LGBTQ+ community, but also allies and anyone who wants to have a great time.

Having the College sponsor the event is indicative of the inclusive culture we have here. I will be both a proud member of the community and College employee when we take to the parade wearing our logo.”

More information about Solihull Pride will be announced in the coming weeks, including how to sign up for the parade, be a volunteer on the day and how to take part in the many activities that are planned.
