Solihull College & University Centre has partnered with a range of NHS trusts to deliver Functional Skills Maths & English courses to key workers.

In September 2023, this partnership reached new heights with South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust as College Lecturers Paul Doidge and Abi Cotton began course delivery on site at Warwick Hospital’s Medical Education Centre.

The Functional Skills Maths & English courses are delivered every Wednesday over 15 weeks. Abi teaches Maths in the morning and Paul teaches English in the afternoon. Students at Warwick Hospital have recently been undertaking their exams.

Functional Skills Apprenticeship Coordinator, Paul, comments: “By working in partnership to deliver English and maths courses, we’ve opened doors to many of our dedicated key workers in the NHS. It means we can reach more staff by teaching directly at their workplace, like here at Warwick Hospital. It’s a win-win for both employers and employees, by improving skills and confidence, and opening up opportunities for career progression.”

The College offers a range of Functional Skills courses and other qualifications, both online and in person. Employers are encouraged to get in touch and take advantage of the opportunity to upskill staff.
