Solihull College & University Centre are offering a brand new degree this September in partnership with Newman University. The BA (Hons) History & English Literature degree is designed to lead to primary or secondary school teaching via PGCE or on school led teaching schemes.
After studying for the degree, progression opportunities could also include a Masters in Victorian Studies at Newman University, teacher training courses or other postgraduate courses at a variety of higher education institutions. Sue McGregor, Dean of Higher Education and Curriculum Innovation states ‘this course is an exciting joint degree with several opportunities for work and further study. If you have a passion for literature and history then this is the course for you’.
The course provides students with the necessary subject knowledge to teach English and History at either Primary or Secondary level. A clearly devised programme will lead learners from further education through to individual research projects and beyond to postgraduate study. A work placement in history-related or English professional settings will provide students with a valuable and exciting experience. The course consists of fieldwork and archive-based modules and study visits including optional field trips.
Delivered on a joint basis at both Solihull College & University Centre and Newman University, students will be attending lectures and seminars at both institutions. During the second and third year, the location of study will be dependent on module selection. At the end of the course students will gain a BA Joint Honours degree qualification.
