College offering one of the best university degrees in the UK
Tuesday, 4 February, 2014

‘Gain your university art degree with us’- that’s the message Solihull College is giving to college leavers as many young people start to consider higher education options for September. As part of the College’s University Centre, the Oxford Brookes University BA (Hons) Fine Art degree is offered at the Blossomfield Campus, through an Associate College Partnership.

The prestigious qualification was recently voted one of the best university fine art qualifications in the country by The Guardian newspaper. The degree came ninth – out of a national list of 82 universities, putting it as one of the best in the West Midlands.
Arlene Burnett teaches the qualification at the College, she comments: “It is a real privilege to offer this qualification at Solihull College – it puts us on the map and we are proud that we are able to offer students a high level tutor contact. With the cost of university being so high, we hope to encourage more college leavers to consider us”?.

During the Fine Art degree, students will learn new techniques in drawing, painting, photography, video and sound and 3D – eventually working from their own dedicated studio space in the second and third years.
Along with Arlene Burnett, the degree is taught by Phil Barber; both are established and practising artists. Arlene is a Birmingham-based artist and curator and Phil is a director of music videos and moving-image.

Last year a Which? University survey voted Solihull College as one of the best college’s in the country for higher education student satisfaction. Along with offering the Oxford Brookes University Fine Art Degree, the College’s University Centre offers higher education qualifications in subject areas including Early Years and Childhood Studies, Health and Social Care, Animal Care and Veterinary Studies, and Computing and
IT.
