College achieves 100 apprenticeships in 100 days well ahead of target
Wednesday, 11 May, 2016

In March of this year Solihull College & University Centre set itself a challenge of gaining 100 apprentices in 100 days beginning in National Apprenticeship Week. After successfully completing the challenge in 2015 with just 10 days to go, the pressure was on to top previous year’s efforts in 2016.

After just 27 working days Solihull College & University Centre have managed to secure 100 apprenticeships leaving them with 73 days to spare. This means that 100 students will now be able to apply for an apprenticeship across a variety of sectors and with a number of industries.

The industries include barbering, beauty, business admin, civil engineering, construction, customer service, early years, electrical installation, hairdressing, health & social care, horticulture, hospitality, IT, maintenance, retail, sports, travel and warehousing.

The 100th apprenticeship was secured by ICP Electrical Services Ltd in Solihull who are recruiting an electrical installation apprentice. The College is now well on the way to filling the aforementioned vacancies to offer people the chance to gain qualifications, industry experience and earn a wage whilst doing so.

Director of Employment and Skills at Solihull College & University Centre Shaun Hindle commented: “We are extremely pleased with the result of securing 100 apprenticeship vacancies in just 27 days. It is great to see so many local employers on board with apprenticeships and fully understanding the benefit to not only the apprentice but to them as a business.  We are looking forward to developing business relationships with the companies who have already signed up and expanding to include more businesses within our apprenticeship offer.”
