A Beauty Therapy student from Solihull College & University Centre is gearing up for the next stage of the WorldSkills Qualifier events.
Lily-Rose Miller, who has just finished her Level 3 Beauty Therapy course, is working part time in a local high-end spa and ultimately wants to own her own business.
The first stage of the competition was a video entry. Lily-Rose was required to perform a 2-minute facial massage on a live model, which demonstrated her skills and the range of movement to a professional standard.
She has now progressed to the second stage qualifier which is taking place on Wednesday 19th June and involves a luxury eye treatment over 80 minutes.
Lily-Rose will be judged on several categories including time management, professional attitude, effective interaction with the client and skill and dexterity.
Lily-Rose comments: “When I started Level 2, I could barely walk through the door as I struggle with severe anxiety. Completing my Level 3 has given me so much confidence and I will be back at college in September to start my Level 4 Diploma in Advanced Beauty Therapy course. I have such a passion for this industry, and I want to start my own business as a skin specialist and am so excited to be taking part in WorldSkills Qualifiers.”
Tutor Joy Pickett is incredibly proud: “Lily-Rose has come so far over the last 2 years, she has excelled during every part of the course, and she has made a huge commitment to the department, college and herself. She is working so hard for the WorldSkills qualifiers, and we wish her all the best.”
WorldSkills is the Olympics of skills and features young people under 24 in a variety of subjects including bricklaying, carpentry, health & social care, and aircraft maintenance.
If Lily-Rose gets through the next stage, she will be invited to compete at a UK national event in Manchester later in the year.
