A Barbering student from Solihull College & University Centre has proven she is a cut above the rest by taking home an award at a recent national competition.
Lauren Askew was crowned the winner of the barbering level two category of Concept Hair Magazine’s Learner of the Year awards. The competition gives the next generation of hairdressers and barbers the chance to be recognised for their hard work and skills.
Lauren was one of ten winners chosen from 48 shortlisted finalists across eight different categories. Learners, lecturers and industry giants attended the virtual event, which showcased this year’s top students. Alongside her award Lauren won a selection of Cloud 9 electrical equipment and some Wahl Super Taper Clippers.
The winners were determined by an expert panel of industry leading judges including Victoria Millar from L’Oreal Professional, Wahl’s Simon Shaw, award winning Stylists Casey Coleman and Lisa Farrall on behalf of Cloud 9 and Michelle Griffin from the Fellowship for British Hairdressing.
Zoë Tanner, Managing Director of Concept Hair Magazine, stated: “The competition is a celebration of the talent and tenacity of the next generation of hairdressing talent. It provides a great platform for student and apprentice hairdressers to showcase what they can do and start creating a name for themselves early on in their careers”.
Lauren adds: “It feels amazing to have won. It hasn’t been an easy year but the competition gave us something to work towards. I’m so grateful to have been involved and the prizes were unbelievable.”
