Uniformed Protective Services students alongside Policing degree students from Solihull College & University Centre have been involved in a practical scenario thanks to support from the British Transport Police.
Students enjoyed a set-up practical scenario detailing an overnight break-in during which a member of the public confronted a burglar. The students acted as a shift of officers who were deployed and tasked with managing the scene.

Students commenced an incident running log, a risk assessment, search of the scene, recovery of evidence and then took part in a full debrief of the incident. They then performed a handover to the major crime team and in doing so were able to experience some of the expectation and pressure that officers deal with day-to-day.

Policing lecturer, Chris Thomas, commented: “The value of this type of experience cannot be measured and gives our students a unique insight into the work of the UK’s only national Police Force covering the transport network. These experiences interspersed with informative lectures and direction from specialist officers help bring learning to life and give our students an immersive experience. They are able to see firsthand what managing a scene and conducting an investigation is like, coupled with the realism of being out in the open air.”
