This course is a Foundation Degree programme designed to offer a learning programme to students with a relevant Level 4 qualification in Electrical and Electronic Engineering subject, or equivalent, to obtain a FdEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and, if desired, progress to a BEng (Hons) programme in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Solihull College and practice in a career as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng).
Students graduating with this FdEng award will be confident practitioners in Engineering with the knowledge and ability to apply current technology to existing products & designs as well as developing new ones. They will have a sound understanding of Engineering Principles and the skills necessary to communicate them to others and develop them into finished products that meet customer expectations and agreed specifications. Within this skill set will be the ability to reflect on their own work to evaluate what worked, what can be improved and how the overall process can be changed for the better.

*Optional Units: *Mathematics II and Electronic Design are mandatory for students who wish to progress to Level 6 of the BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering degree.

The programme consists of lectures, seminars, project work, and directed activities to promote independent learning along with workshops, and tutorials. Work-based learning is also an important part of the programme and will be linked in with core modules.
The programme is designed for full time mode of study for 1 year - 1 day per week (9:00am-8:00pm) plus work-based project (flexible hours).
There is the possibility of alternative attendance modes if there are sufficient applicants to make the course viable. Please note that the fees will be calculated based on the number of modules studied each year.
On successful completion of all the modules the learner will have 120 credits at level 5 and will be awarded a Foundation Degree Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Oxford Brookes University.
A variety of methods of assessment will be used within the programme, including coursework, assignments, examinations, experiments and presentations. Most modules consist of more than one method of assessment.

For entry into the second year of the Foundation Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering:
· HNC (BTEC) A minimum of 120 credits at MERIT profile or above and must be in a relevant Engineering subject.
· As well as HNC level 4 in a relevant subject, normally a BTEC Level 3 Qualification (MMM) or A-level Equivalent (CCC) in a relevant subject include: Mathematics/Physics/Chemistry
· In addition, a Grade C/4 or above in GCSE Maths and English or equivalent will normally be required.
· 5 GCSE A* - C or 9/4 or above in English and Mathematics or equivalent will be required. Add any other relevant subject required.

Additional Entry requirements
Applicants who do not meet the standard entry criteria but have appropriate industry and life experiences may have their prior learning and skills considered.
Applicants may be required to complete an Aptitude assessment (this will be advised at interview).
English language requirements
Students who are non-native English speakers or who have not studied the final two years of school in English but can demonstrate capability in English at a standard commensurate to IELTS 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 being awarded on individual sections for a level 4, 5 or 6 qualifications may be considered as eligible to apply for the programme.

· Optional: 3D printing may form part of a project. Where possible, the college will pay for the printing materials. However, for larger designs, a contribution may be required from the student.
