Where will this course lead?

You will begin to learn how to communicate effectively in most everyday situations in Italy or an Italian speaking country.

What will I study?

The basic skills covered are speaking, listening, reading and writing in Italian.

You will learn the tools to form your own sentences focusing on verbs and vocabulary with an easy approach. This would be by undertaking fun activities and games in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

You will learn a range of useful vocabulary, key phrases and accurate pronunciation.

Term 1 - Beginners

This first term is designed for complete beginners of the language.

During the first term you will learn how to introduce and give basic information about yourself and how to find out about other people. You will learn how to order in a bar and in a restaurant in details. You will learn Italian numbers. You will learn how to buy food using Italian weights and measures. You will learn how to shop for clothes and shoes, use European sizes and deal with possible situations such as changing size, colour etc.

Term 2 - Beginners - Improvers

The second term is open to those who have studied in Term 1 or have some knowledge of the language.

During the second term you will be learning how to form your own sentences, using verbs and more detailed structures of the language. You will be able to understand other people meeting and talking about themselves, where they are going, for how long and the reason of their journey. You will be able to talk about your leisure activities in a proper conversation with other people.

Term 3 - Improvers

The Third term is for those who have studied in Term 2 or have a good knowledge of the language.

During the third term you will be learning how to talk about work in more details. You will be able to ask and give the time. You will be able to find out when places open and close and when events start and finish. You will learn agreeing and disagreeing. You will also learn how to talk about your family and describe people and pets according to their appearance and character.

How will this course be delivered?

A two-hour class each week.

This course is delivered at various venues throughout the year.

What qualifications will I get?

This is a recreational course.

How will I be assessed?

This is a personal development course for your own personal achievement. It is informally assessed by the tutor, with self-evaluation by the student.

What are the entry requirements?

Students must be aged 19+.

To study the January course, you need to have completed term 1 or have a basic knowledge of Italian.    Please note that we can only accept enrolments for the April start date from those students that have completed terms 1 and 2.

What else do I need to know?

Bring a pen and paper to your lesson. You may be required to purchase a course book for your own personal use, plus a dictionary.

Please note: Materials are not supplied for Cakes, Flowers/Floristry, Textiles, Soft Furnishings, Homemade Crafts, Calligraphy, Art, Cookery, Tiling, Painting & Decorating, Sewing or Dressmaking.
