Where will this course lead?

This three-week course is designed for those wanting to improve their English language skills and gain a qualification. It is perfect for those seeking a fast-track approach. Achieving the qualification may be a key requirement for entry onto another academic programme, as a requirement for progressing at work or to help you make that move into a new job or career. Please contact us for further details or to apply.

What will I study?

You will gain confidence and knowledge in a range of English language skills and work towards achieving a qualification. You will take part in a variety of daily activities to improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. You will focus on both the underpinning skills as well as the ability to apply English to different contexts and real-world scenarios. The skills you gain will be valuable in the workplace or in any further learning.

How will this course be delivered?

You have the option of studying at our Blossomfield Campus, or fully online.

What qualifications will I get?

You will aim to achieve a Functional Skills English qualification. Normally, this will be at either level 1 or level 2. The awarding organisation is City & Guilds.

How will I be assessed?

You will be initially assessed to ensure our teachers can help you with your areas of need. The final assessments involve two exam papers, which can be taken on the same day (reading and writing). In additional, you will take part in a 'speaking, listening and communicating' assessment, which is carried out within your normal lesson time.

What else do I need to know?

What can I do after this course?

Gaining an English qualification can open doors into a wide variety of higher level courses. It may also be a requirement for particular employment/career opportunities and is also important if you are applying to join an apprenticeship programme.
