Where will this course lead?

Autism is a spectrum condition that affects how a person communicates with others and how they interpret the world around them. There are around 700,000 people in the UK with autism - more than 1 in every 100. Having a clear understanding of the misconceptions, diagnoses and support surrounding autism, are just some of the essential skills needed when working in mental health.

What will I study?

· Learn how individuals with autism process sensory information

· Understand the characteristics that may be present in individuals with autism

· Understand the conditions that commonly occur with autism

· Learn the common misconceptions surrounding autism

· Learn how speech, language and communication may differ in people with autism

· Recognise how legislation and guidance underpins support

How will this course be delivered?

9 weeks distance learning (3 assessments).

What qualifications will I get?

Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autism.

How will I be assessed?

Assessments will be marked by an allocated tutor who will provide you with detailed feedback. You will be assessed against criteria where all learning outcomes of the course have to be covered; your tutor will give you guidance for this.

What are the entry requirements?

No specific entry requirements, but an initial assessment will be completed at enrolment.

What else do I need to know?

You must be aged 19+ and be a British or Irish citizen that has lived within the UK for at least 3 years. You must also be based in England; however, some postcode exclusions apply - please enquire for confirmation of eligibility. In addition to this, please note that participants cannot be currently enrolled on an apprenticeship.

These courses are fully funded at zero cost unless they are not completed and learning materials are retained by the learner; please note that in these circumstances, there is a £125 fee.
