This qualification is designed for anyone over 18 who uses, or would like to use, helping skills either at work or in a personal capacity. This course is for people who would like to find out about counselling skills. You will study the definition of counselling and developing self-awareness through skills practice. The course introduces approaches and offers opportunities to practice listening skills - empathy, reflecting, paraphrasing, summarising and focussing.
The course is for learners who wish to progress towards further counselling qualifications, or learners who wish to study this programme in order to complement other programmes - such as health and social care, children's care, learning and development, voluntary and community work.
Our courses are highly interactive and our teaching approaches require all learners to participate fully in sharing experiences, discussing personal values and exploring individual ways of working.
NCFE LEVEL 2 AWARD IN HELPING SKILLS
By building up a portfolio of work which will include responses to homework questions and worksheets, notes from class discussions, feedback sheets from skills practice sessions and a reflective diary. There is no exam.
Contact our student services department by dialling 0121 678 7000 - option 2 or contact lynne.reveley@solihull.ac.uk for further information.
Learners will be required to participate in group discussions, demonstrate listening skills and present written work at Level 2.
Although we will be talking about our personal experiences, courses are not therapeutic groups. Participants will need to balance a strong regard for their own care with a responsibility to share to an appropriate degree within the group. Facilitators will ensure that a welcoming and safe learning environment is established and maintained throughout all programmes. Our courses are well reputed and offer valuable personal development.
We will suggest relevant reading but you will have access to an excellent library and there is no requirement to buy any books at this stage.
