The Filming Live Performance Bootcamp runs over six weeks, and is structured to allow Bootcampers to participate alongside their existing work commitments.

The Bootcamp provides an essential overview of how performances are scripted, filmed, recorded, streamed and edited. It allows participants to develop in-demand skills and understanding in all aspects of multi-camera filming of live arts performances. You will also attend masterclasses with industry professionals throughout the course and gain real-world training in professional TV studios and on location.

Bootcamp Schedule

Weeks 1 & 2 Part-time (3 days per week) - The course schedule begins with a two-week workshop where you will understand the basics of live capture from small-scale streaming setups to large-scale multiple OB filming units. Teaching will blend practical hands-on workshops with kit and theory of performance capture, styles and setups.

Week 3 Part-time (3 days per week) - In the third week, students will work across three different art forms with specialists to hone their filming, vision mixing and editing skills in a professional studio environment.

Week 4 Part-time (3 days per week) - Students will focus on editing performances captured and begin pre-production of the project that they will produce from scratch.

Week 5 Full-time (5 Days) - Students will work in small groups on a practical filmed performance project of a live performance - drama, live music, dance, performance poetry or comedy.

Weeks 5 & 6 - Planning and preparation will take place for a multi-camera filming of a live arts performance event at the Birmingham Hippodrome. In addition participants will share their work and receive professional feedback.
