This course is designed with the mechanically intrigued mind. The course is designed to give you a practical hands-on approach to stripping down and rebuilding a motor vehicle engine unit. If you have always been fascinated in how engines work and more importantly how the components work together this course is ideal for you. This course is a single module that will allow you to gain confidence working with engine units.
You will study the theory of both petrol and diesel engines, the components contained within the engine units and how the engine components fit together. You will be taken through the step-by-step process of combustion and the key differences between petrol and diesel engine units. After this, you will then put your theoretical knowledge to the test by stripping down an engine unit and completely rebuilding it to a good industry standard. You will remove the following components, piston, crankshaft, camshaft, valves and other ancillary items. Please note, This course will cover theoretical principles of engine timing but not practical skills.
This course will be delivered over four weeks within a practical environment. Part of the lesson will undertake theory of engine units and the combustion process for both diesel and petrol vehicles and will give a hands-on practical approach on how to remove and replace engine components.
You will receive a college certificate upon successful completion of this course.
You will be assessed practically and be asked to complete a small questionnaire at the end of the course.
