Where will this course lead?

This three-week course is designed for those wanting to improve their maths skills and gain a qualification. It is perfect for those seeking a fast-track approach. Achieving the qualification may be a key requirement for entry onto another academic programme, as a requirement for progressing at work or to help you make that move into a new job or career. What will I study?

You will gain confidence and knowledge in a range of maths skills and work towards achieving a qualification. You will take part in a variety of daily activities to improve your numeracy skills. You will focus on both the underpinning skills as well as the ability to apply maths to different contexts and real-world scenarios. The skills you gain will be valuable in the workplace or in any further learning.

How will this course be delivered?

The course is running from 9:30am-12:30pm each week day (Monday to Friday) from 7 June to 25 June. This is a 3-week fast-track course.

What qualifications will I get?

You will aim to achieve a Functional Skills maths qualification. Normally, this will be at either level 1 or level 2. The awarding organisation is City & Guilds.

How will I be assessed?

You will be initially assessed to ensure our teachers can help you with your areas of need. The final assessment involves completing one exam paper. You will be tested on both calculator and non-calculator skills.

What are the entry requirements?

You will complete a short 'initial assessment', which will help us to ensure that the course is suitable for your needs. The course is designed for those aged 19+. A commitment to good attendance is important.

What can I do after this course?

Gaining a maths qualification can open doors into a wide variety of higher level courses. It may also be a requirement for particular employment/career opportunities and is also important if you are applying to join an apprenticeship programme. Once you have achieved level 2 Functional Skills, you may also consider taking a GCSE or higher level maths course. Some students may also wish to join one of our English programmes to gain a qualification and improve their literacy skills.
