Where will this course lead?

About 300,000 patients develop an infection in England each year, while being treated by the NHS. Protecting people from infection is an essential element of providing high-quality care, especially considering the capacity that some potentially life-threatening infections have to spread, within the care environment.

What will I study?

· Understand the purpose and principles of infection control and the procedures

· Understand how regulations inform policy and practice

· Understand roles, responsibilities, principles and processes in relation to cleaning, decontamination and waste management

· Understand the role of risk assessments

· Learn the importance of maintaining a clean environment

· Learn the sterilisation process

· Learn how to safely handle laundry

· Learn how to safely handle sharps

6 weeks distance learning (2 assessments)

What qualifications will I get?

Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Prevention & Control of Infection

How will I be assessed?

Assessments will be marked by an allocated tutor who will provide you with detailed feedback. You will be assessed against criteria where all learning outcomes of the course have to be covered; your tutor will give you guidance for this.

What are the entry requirements?

No specific entry requirements, but an initial assessment will be completed at enrolment.

What else do I need to know?

You must be aged 19+ and be a British or Irish citizen that has lived within the UK for at least 3 years. You must also be based in England; however, some postcode exclusions apply - please enquire for confirmation of eligibility. In addition to this, please note that participants cannot be currently enrolled on an apprenticeship.

These courses are fully funded at zero cost unless they are not completed and learning materials are retained by the learner; please note that in these circumstances, there is a £125 fee.
