The VRQ Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing is the natural progression from the Level 1 course for those who wish to study in the profession. On the Level 2 programme you will study more in-depth about the techniques and styles used by the professionals, how to cut hair as specifically asked for by the clients as well as getting to grips with health and safety protocol in the workplace.
On the course you will learn:
- Follow health and safety practice in salon
- Working in the hair industry
- Client consultation for hair services
- Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
- Colour and lighten hair
- Cut women's hair
- The art of dressing hair
- The art of colouring hair
- Create an image based on a theme in the hair and beauty sector.
Optional Units:
- Perm and neutralise hair
- Scalp Massage
The practical elements of this course will be delivered in the college commercial salons and the other half of the programme involves assignments, external tests and portfolio building.
Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing
Assessment is by practical observations, course work, assignments and external tests.
Places are offered by interview.
Minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above, including English

A target of 94% attendance is needed to complete the course, however,100% is expected.
You will undertake one week of work experience. You will have the option to attend trips with the college (e.g. clothes show).

If you haven't achieved an A*/9 - C/4 grade in English or Maths at GCSE, or a Level 2 Functional Skill, you will also be working towards a qualification in English or Maths at a level that will enable you to progress towards these grades.Good levels of English and Maths are important for your success in your course, your chosen vocation and life. Throughout your course you will continue to develop your English and Maths skills in your vocational classes.
