This course will qualify you to assess the learner's skills and competence in their workplace. You can do this whilst working for an educational organisation, assessing apprenticeships, or within a workplace, where colleagues are taking competence-based qualifications. Most awarding bodies now require all those assessing their qualifications to be qualified assessors.
You will study the principles and practices of assessment, such as the functions of assessment, regulations and requirements, planning and carrying out of assessments in a workplace and how to make assessment decisions that meet the requirements of awarding bodies.
You will also study the legislation involved in assessment within a workplace and how to ensure you are assessing according to current best practice.
You will have a full year to complete the course, although, if you are experienced and wish to fast-track, there is an option to do so. The content is delivered face to face over 5 monthly sessions over the first 5 months of the academic year. During these sessions, you will have the opportunity to learn with others through presentation, discussion and hands on, interactive learning activities. These sessions cover all content of the knowledge-based unit, and the requirements of the competence-based unit where you will assess within a workplace.
In addition to the delivered sessions, you will have monthly one to one meetings with your assessor to support you throughout the course.
Highfield Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment (RQF)
Assessment of the knowledge-based unit is through written answers to questions.
For the competence-based unit, you will be assessed by observation of performance, assessing in a workplace, evidence provided from assessment practice, including records of assessment, CPD records, professional discussion and a written reflective account.

In order to complete this qualification, learners are required to:
· Be a minimum of 19 years of age
· It is advised that learners already hold a level 2 qualification.
You will need to be working as a tutor, learning coach or assessor and have access to at least 4 learners. This can be in an educational organisation or a workplace where you are supporting colleagues through a qualification.
After qualifying as an assessor for competence in a workplace, your employment opportunities will broaden, as you will be able to assess for any qualification you hold. Many organisations will also accept significant industrial experience in a subject area, as long as you are a qualified assessor.
After gaining your Assessment Award, you could progress onto the Highfield Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (RQF).
