The PCAP: Programming Essentials in Python course covers all the basics of programming in Python 3, as well as general computer programming concepts and techniques. The course also familiarises the student with the object-oriented approach. The course is broken down into two parts, each divided into four modules. Students have access to hands-on practice materials, quizzes, and assessments to learn how to utilise the skills and knowledge gained on the course and interact with some real-life programming tasks and situations.
The aim of the course is to familiarise students with general computer programming concepts like conditional execution, functions, loops, Python programming language syntax, semantics, and the runtime environment, as well as with general coding techniques and object-oriented programming.
Completing the course ensures that the student is fully acquainted with all the primary means provided by Python 3 to enable them to start their own studies, and to open a path to the developer's career. Sections studied include:
Introduction to Python and Computer Programming | Data Types, Variables, Basic Input-Output Operations, Basic Operators |
Boolean Values, Conditional Execution, Loops, Lists and List Processing, Logic and Bitwise Operations | Functions, Tuples, Dictionaries, and Data Processing |
Modules, Packages and PIP | Exceptions, Strings, String and List Methods |
Object Oriented Programming in Python | Generators, iterators and closures |
This course is offered through our Cisco Networking Academy at Solihull College, with workshops with individual lab facilities, supported by your tutor.
Study materials include online labs and Cisco Netacad study resources to support independent study and lab facilities both in college and at home.
To facilitate effective distance learning Solihull college has invested in a range of on-line resources which includes Microsoft Teams used for distance workshops & tutor support, Cisco Netacad, and student Office 365. These facilities will enable us to provide an equivalent class-based experience, with student-tutor and student-student interaction.
This course is available to study in the daytime, over 15 weeks, on Thursdays 9:30 to 4:30 with a blended approach of tutor-led and distance learning. Learners may re-enrol on course to extend their period of study.
On successful completion of the course learners will receive a Cisco certificate. Certifications give you a professional edge by providing globally recognised industry endorsed evidence of skills and mastery, demonstrating your abilities and willingness to embrace new technologies.
The course includes assessments throughout, with both practical and quiz exercises.
Places are offered by interview, subject to meeting the entry requirements.
