This is a leisure course for personal development. Some students may progress and consider publication or others may decide to take English qualifications in Functional Skills or GCSEs.
This is a wellbeing course which will look at how writing can be a helpful way to relieve stress and manage our wellbeing. The focus will be on students building their confidence as they write and enjoy being able to relax and learn in a friendly supportive environment. We will look at different genres of writing - fiction, poetry, drama, memoir, and life writing. You will be encouraged to try writing in different styles, exploring what works best for you and developing your writing skills along the way. It is designed for anyone who has an interest in writing. It doesn't matter if you have never tried it before, or if you think you're not very good. This is about exploring different ways to write and express yourself within a supportive group.
The course consists of two-hour sessions once a week, taught in a friendly and supportive way - helping to build students' confidence. Term one and term two will cover different topics and can be taken on their own or one after the other. Lessons will be structured so that students can learn about different writing genres, look at examples, discuss techniques that are used, and then have the time and encouragement to try writing in that style themselves.
This is a non-accredited course.
