Where will this course lead?

This course is designed to give participants of all ages an introduction to the world of DIY Motor Vehicle Maintenance. Whether the aim is to learn about servicing vehicle/s at home or maybe are considering a career change into the profession.

This course gives a good foundation of knowledge leading towards the Intermediate Car Maintenance Course.

What will I study?

This Basic Car Maintenance course will cover an introduction to the following areas through theory and practical elements:

  • Maintenance & Replacement of Vehicle Tyres
  • Understanding & Servicing Vehicle Brakes
  • Conducting a Basic Engine Service
  • Engine Ignition System Servicing
  • Vehicle Suspension Components
  • Vehicle Electrical Maintenance

The course also offers an insight into the knowledge required to undertake these tasks with regard to personal health & safety and the resources and equipment required.

How will this course be delivered?

This course will be delivered over 6 weeks (about 1 and a half months) in two-hour sessions and will include both Theory and Practical elements taking place in Solihull Colleges State of the art workshop facilities (Woodlands Campus) 

What qualifications will I get?

This is a personal enrichment course.

How will I be assessed?

This course is for personal development and is informally assessed by the tutor with self-assessment and evaluation by the student.

What are the entry requirements?

Students must be aged 19+.

What else do I need to know?

The Basic Car Maintenance course is a hands-on course and you will need to be prepared to get hands on with the vehicle. Gloves and Steel toe capped boots are mandatory. Participants can wear own clothes that they do not mind getting dirty. 

This course will run subject to a minimum class size.
