Where will this course lead?

This course is designed to give participants more insight into DIY motor vehicle maintenance on an intermediate level. Whether the aim is to learn about servicing vehicle/s at home or maybe are considering a career change into the profession.

This course is perfect for all ages wanting to learn more about motor vehicle maintenance and is ideally aimed at individuals who have either already participated in the basic maintenance course or have experience within the industry that may need "refreshing" . This course gives a good intermediate knowledge potentially leading towards the "Engine Rebuilding" course for those participants who want to gain hands-on-skills with an engine.

It is recommended to participate in the Basic Maintenance Course first in order to cover subjects leading to this intermediate course.

What will I study?

This Intermediate Car Maintenance course will cover an introduction to the following areas through theory and practical elements:

  • Coolant Systems
  • Starting & Charging Systems
  • Modern Vehicle Electrics
  • Engine Servicing
  • Brake Services
  • Oil Lubrication System & PCV Systems

The course also offers an insight into the knowledge required to undertake these tasks with regard to personal health & safety and the resources and equipment required.

How will this course be delivered?

This course will be delivered over 6 weeks in two-hour sessions and will include both theory and practical elements taking place in Solihull College's state-of-the-art workshop facilities (Woodlands Campus).

What qualifications will I get?

This is a personal enrichment course. 

How will I be assessed?

This course is for personal development and is informally assessed by the tutor with self-assessment and evaluation by the student.

Students must be aged 19+.

What else do I need to know?

The Intermediate Car Maintenance course is a hands-on course and you will need to be prepared to get hands on with the vehicle. Gloves and Steel toe capped boots are mandatory. Participants can wear own clothes that they do not mind getting dirty.
