This course will lead to the achievement of the Level 3 HR Support Apprenticeship.
Successful completion of this standard will enable the individual to apply for Associate Membership (Assoc CIPD) of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), the professional body for the HR sector, if they take the qualification suggested and pass all of the assessments. The many transferable skills developed during this course provide a superb foundation for career pathways in HR as both a generalist or a specialist. On completion, the apprentice may choose to continue their studies with the chartered body to achieve further qualifications and ultimately chartered membership of the CIPD.
You will be required to study the knowledge, skills and behaviours which are essential in the human resources profession including:
- Business understanding - demonstrating a clear understanding the structure of your organisation, the sector in which it operates and the values by which it does business.
- HR Legislation and Policy - understanding how HR legislation underpins the HR policy framework in your organisation and being able to provide expert advice and support to managers.
- Communication and interpersonal skills - dealing effectively with colleagues through a range of media, building trust and effective working relationships.
You may be required to study Functional Skills in Maths and English depending on your previous achievements. Workshops are approx. 2 hours per week and are available at various times at both college campuses. A blended learning route is also available if you are unable to attend college.
The course is delivered through a combination of classroom teaching, practical workshops and independent learning/self- study.
You will attend college for one day a week. This will include 3 hours of taught session as part of the Certificate in HR Practice and a further 4 hours per week of independent study. This will be recorded in a learning journal to capture your experiences, reflections and achievements throughout the learning journey.
As an apprentice a vast amount of learning takes place 'on the job' through training and the practical application of your skills, knowledge and behaviours.
You will also receive 1:1 support and coaching from an allocated coach who will visit you in the workplace every six to eight weeks.
It is expected that the duration of the apprenticeship will be between 18-24 months.
Upon successful completion of the end point assessment you will be awarded the Level 3 HR Support standard with a Pass or Distinction.
Your progress and development will be assessed at regular stages throughout the apprenticeship - this is likely to be a combination of assignments, practical activities, performance management reviews and observations in the workplace.
Your employer and training provider will formally sign-off your readiness for the end point assessment when you have met and can confidently apply the minimum requirements of skills, knowledge and behaviours as detailed in the apprenticeship standard.
The end point assessment consists of the following 2 components and can be taken within the last 3-4 months of the apprenticeship.
Assessment Method | Weighting |
Consultative project | 50% |
Professional discussion | 50% |
Employers can receive advice and support from the Employer Services team at Solihull College & University Centre.
Please note this is not an apprenticeship vacancy. This course is intended for apprentices in employment whose employer chooses Solihull College & University Centre as their training provider. If you are looking for an apprenticeship vacancy, you can go to the college's main website, click on 'Apprenticeships', then click on 'Apprenticeship Vacancies'; these are vacancies from employers for which you can apply. There is also a link to the main government apprenticeship vacancies website, which has vacancies within the Midlands area, again for which you can apply.
The apprentice will meet the requirements of the occupational profile. In a medium to large organisation this would typically be someone delivering front line support to managers and employees, undertaking both transactional and more complex HR tasks. In a small organisation it may be the HR professional or Manager.
