Where will this course lead?

The Podcast Bootcamp runs in a hybrid format over 11 weeks, designed to accommodate participants' existing work commitments. The course is part-time, combining online sessions with some in-person workshops.

This Podcast Bootcamp equips participants with the skills to develop, create, produce, and distribute your own podcasts. You will work on a live brief to create a creative podcast commissioned by the West Midlands Combined Authority for people working or wanting to work in Creative Sector. You will also be managing a budget and meeting specific client requirements. Additionally, you will have the time and guidance to develop your own podcast ideas should you wish to do so or create content for your/an organisation, under the mentorship of our industry experts.

By the end of the course, participants will have produced the start of a podcast series, complete with a trailer and two full episodes, providing a solid foundation for potential career opportunities in podcasting, media production, content creation, and digital marketing.

What will I study?

The Podcast Bootcamp is a comprehensive, hands-on course that guides participants through the entire podcast production process, from understanding the podcasting landscape and developing creative formats to mastering recording techniques and equipment. Bootcampers will acquire essential skills in branding, editing with Adobe Audition, and distribution. The course includes a live commissioning project, where participants produce a professional podcast series with a trailer and full episodes, as well as the opportunity to develop their own ideas. This experience not only enhances their skill set but also adds a valuable string to their bow in the creative industry.

Course type: Part-time, online and some In-person Location: Online, Blossomfield Campus, Solihull College & University Centre and some at Stratford-upon-Avon College.  This course is free for all successful applicants.

What does this Bootcamp cover?

Introduction to Podcasting: Explore the podcasting landscape, understand various formats, and get acquainted with recording techniques, equipment, branding, and distribution basics.

Format Development: Focus on developing podcast formats, including research, casting, planning, structuring content, and shaping ideas while working to a specific brief.

Production Pilot: Hands-on experience with recording in different environments (location, studio, online, and phone), techniques for video capture, and a focus on technical aspects of production.

Post-Production: Participants engage in an Adobe Audition workshop, practice editing techniques, and work on refining example podcasts, while incorporating feedback and adjustments.

Recording Sessions: Creation of a podcast trailer and recording of full podcast episodes, with practical application of learned skills and adherence to the project brief.

Final Post-Production: Final editing of podcasts and trailer, along with the development of branding and distribution strategies, ensuring alignment with the brief and readiness for launch.

The Podcast bootcamps is open to creative and arts professionals over 19 years of age who live in the West Midlands Combined Authority area postcode (Birmingham, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton) Coventry or Warwickshire. This bootcamp offers a versatile learning environment that caters to a broad range of applicants with varying levels of experience and career objectives.
