This workshop is for adult and child to either work together, or for adult to have time with others and their children to work with other children. For participants who are creative and want to expand their understanding of writing and illustration and be with others with similar interests. The topic is based around fairy tales, fables, or their favourite poem. This is a workshop where they can produce a finished piece of work, choosing how to work whether producing a painting first or text and or vice versa.
A fun workshop whilst learning new skills or expanding their current knowledge in a creative atmosphere, getting to know others and for the benefit of their well-being.
Workshop Agenda
Ice breaker: drama and age related activity to the stories we will look at, and to get to know each other - whole group.
10:30-10:45 leading from the drama related ice breaker - introduction to the day's workshop.
How: Story telling and illustration; or illustration and produce a short story, which ever they prefer. Using a fairy tale, fable or favourite poem as their inspiration. Books to show examples of writing and the related illustration.
10:45-11.00 Sharing ideas and methods: dependent on age and capabilities any of the following or similar: thumb nail sketches, ideas of colours, perspective, layout, story structure, ideas cloud/spidergram. We will adjust to suit audience, eg lining paper for young children to do hand painting, string painting etc. Area for young children where adult can also participate with them, or adult working with others and children together.
12:15-12:30 Regroup before lunch, use time to clarify and share ideas and methods again.
12:30-13:00 lunch break - please bring your own lunch
13:00-13:30 Ice breaker activity to refocus after lunch.
13:30-14:00 Move around time, or continue, or/and add text to their illustration and discussion how they will do this.
14:00-15:30 Continue their work to finish.
15:30-16:00 Roundup, show and tell: final presentation of their completed work to the group.

Your child must be 6 years or older to join you on this course.
There is only 1 child space per adult. You cannot bring more than 1 child with you.
We can offer family learning at your child's school - if you enjoy the session, please ask your school to contact debbie.mcleod@solihull.ac.uk. We offer 10 week courses where you can learn how to help your child with their English and maths, learn about grammar, or even complete a English and maths course yourself.
