Where will this course lead?

For those learners not yet ready to start a T Level Programme at 16, they will be able to study a new T Level transition programme.  This is a new 16-19 study programmes designed to give young people effective, tailored preparation specifically to help them progress onto and succeed in a T Level after one year.  

What will I study?

Learners will develop knowledge and understanding by applying their learning and skills in a work-related context. 

Units include; 

- Communication in health and social care, 

- Individual rights in health and social care, 

- Individual needs in health and social care, 

- Ensuring safe environments in health and social care, 

- Vocational experience in a health and social care setting, 

- Cultural diversity in health and social care, 

- Anatomy and physiology for health and social, 

- The impact of diet on health. 

There will also be sessions dedicated to practical elements and a study skills session 

Learners will also undertake placement hours at a suitable health and social care setting 

English or Maths GCSE 

How will this course be delivered?

This course is college based with assessed work-based practice.  You will be in college for a minimum of 3 days per week and assessed in your work placement over 1 year. 

What qualifications will I get?

Health and Social Care Level 2 Technical Diploma OCR 

Maths or English GCSE 

How will I be assessed?

The level 2 qualification will be delivered through taught and practical sessions. Examples include assignments, practical's, presentations, online assessments. 

You will need to pass all units and all units will be internally assessed using a range of methods and graded Pass, Merit or Distinction. 

You will gain experience in working with individuals in a health and social care setting; this is an important part of the assessment process involves evaluating skills in real working settings.

How do I get a place on the course?

You will apply through the college website. Places are offered by interview depending on your predicted grades and a good reference from your current tutor. 

What are the entry requirements?

Maths or English at a grade 4 (if Maths and English not obtained it must be a grade 3) 

2 other GCSE's at a grade 4 or above. 

You must be aged between 16 and 19 to enrol onto the course 

You will have a positive school / college reference with good levels of attendance and punctuality.  

What else do I need to know?

All students working with vulnerable adults and children will need to have a Disclosure and Barring Security Check.  

You will need to provide additional funds for a textbook and uniform for work placement. 

Educational trips are offered to enhance your learning on the course. 

What can I do after this course?

Successful completion of the T Level Transition Programme and a minimum of a grade 4 in English and Maths will secure progression to the T Level in Health and Social Care.

Nurse

Nurses provide general and/or specialised nursing care for the sick, injured and others in need of such care, assist medical doctors with their tasks and work with other healthcare professionals and within teams of healthcare workers. They advise on and teach nursing practice.

What’s Involved?

A nurse assists medical doctors and works with other healthcare professionals to deal with emergencies and pre-planned treatment of patients; manages own case load; monitors patient's progress, administers drugs and medicines, applies surgical dressings and gives other forms of treatment; participates in the preparation for physical and psychological treatment of mentally ill patients; plans duty rotas and organises and directs the work and training of ward and theatre nursing staff; advises on nursing care, disease prevention, nutrition, etc. and liaises with hospital board/ management on issues concerning nursing policy; plans, manages, provides and evaluates nursing care services for patients, supervises the implementation of nursing care plans; delivers lectures and other forms of formal training relating to nursing practice.
