Where will this course lead?

Completing the Level 1 Diploma in Computing and Information Security prepares students to progress to the Level 2 T Level Foundation in Digital.

What will I study?

The Level 1 Diploma in Computing and Information Security is a one-year program designed to provide young learners with the foundational skills and knowledge needed for further study in IT. The course includes:

  • GCSE English and Maths, based on entry-level grades.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software management.
  • Development of interactive games using Python
  • Hands-on experience in front-end and back-end web development.

Core curriculum modules include:

  • Cyber threats and security awareness.
  • Digital communication.
  • Computer systems.
  • Programming.
  • Secure internet access.
  • Web design.

This course is perfect for students aiming to continue to a Level 2 IT course.

How will this course be delivered?

Students will attend college at least four days a week (Monday to Friday) to study the Level 1 Diploma. If required, they will also work on GCSE Maths and English based on their entry grades.

What qualifications will I get?

By completing this course, you will achieve:

  • A Level 1 Diploma in Computing and Information Security, enabling progression to Level 2.
  • GCSE Maths and English (dependent on exam results).

How will I be assessed?

Assessments will include:

  • Assignments.
  • Presentations.
  • Observations.

How do I get a place on the course?

You can apply online or complete an application form. After applying, you will be invited for an interview with a member of the School of Computing.

What are the entry requirements?

To join this course, you will need:

  • 4 GCSE grades 2 or above including English and Mathematics.
  • A successful college interview and initial assessment.
  • A willingness and curiosity to learn about computing, cybersecurity, and web development.

What else do I need to know?

The program may include a mini-industry placement with an employer.

You'll need basic supplies, such as pens, pencils, lined A4 paper, and an A4 lever-arch file for your coursework.

Most students qualify for free tuition. However, students aged 19 or over at the start of the course, may incur fees.

What can I do after this course?

Successful completion of the Level 1 Diploma naturally leads to the Level 2 T Level Foundation in Digital, opening further pathways in IT and digital studies.
