Where will this course lead?

It is a course for self-expression and learning, and to gather knowledge about these and poetry in general. If needed, it can also boost self-confidence and self-esteem.

During the course students will write a number of poems, which in due course could lead to publication.

Students are encouraged to share their work verbally to the rest of the class. This in turn will not only boost public speaking skills but could also lead to students feeling able to perform their poems at open-mics and other events.

Students may wish to go on from this class and study creative writing more generally in one of the creative writing classes offered by the college.

An appreciation of poetry in all its forms and myriads.

What will I study?

Writing poems in the class in many styles, genres and styles to prompts designed to confirm learning and to make students approach creativity to their best and through different eyes.

We also look at a previously published poem each week in order to appreciate poetry in all its forms and to find influence in other works.
