This is an introductory programme designed for those in a support role to mentor children within a school environment, or anyone thinking of becoming a school mentor.
The Mentoring course is an interactive course teaching you how to support children in schools. During the course you will find out how to support children struggling through the learning process
The course offers the opportunity to consider the roles, purposes and skills of mentors and to develop personal practice. No placement is required for this course.
There are 3 units to be completed:
- The role of a mentor
- Developing mentoring skills
- Developing mentoring and support skills
A 3 hour class each week for 20 weeks.
You will learn through group discussion, case studies and looking at resources that will support the mentoring role in schools.
There will be additional work to do at home.
On completion, you will gain a NCFE Level 2 Certificate in work based support and mentoring.
Assessment will be made on a portfolio put together throughout the duration of the course, plus one observation of the student in the role of a learning mentor.
