Where will this course lead?

This qualification is intended for those who maintain and improve the quality of assessment from within an organisation or assessment centre. The objective of the qualification is to support other roles in the workplace to ensure quality is monitored and continually improved.

What will I study?

The qualification consists of two units. The first, "Understanding the principles and practices of internally assuring the quality of assessment", is a knowledge-based unit and covers all aspects of monitoring and improving the quality of assessment within an organisation. The second unit, "Internally assure the quality of assessment", gives you the opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills through carrying out monitoring activities by way of supporting and developing others in their roles, and developing and improving processes within an organisation.

How will this course be delivered?

You will have a full year to complete the course, although, if you are experienced and wish to fast-track, there is an option to do so. The content is delivered through monthly one-to-one sessions, either face to face and online throughout the academic year. The knowledge-based unit content is covered in the first 5 meetings. Thereafter, sessions will cover assessment of assignments, requirements and preparation for competence-based activities, such as professional discussions and observation of practice.

Highfield Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (RQF)

How will I be assessed?

Assessment of the knowledge-based unit is through written answers to questions and professional discussion.

For the competence-based unit, you will be assessed by observation of performance during monitoring activities, development and improvement activities, evidence provided from monitoring and improving practice, including records of observations, training, CPD records, professional discussion and a written reflective account.

What are the entry requirements?

In order to complete this qualification, learners are required to:

• Be a minimum of 19 years of age

It is recommended that learners hold one of the following qualifications prior to enrolling:

• Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment

• Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement

• A1 Assess candidate performance using a range of methods

• D32/D33 assess candidates performance/assess candidates using a different range of methods

What else do I need to know?

You will need to be in a role that allows you to monitor at least two assessors/tutors/coaches and sample the assessment of at least four learners/candidates.
