Where will this course lead?

You will be proficient in altering a number of different garments and will have improved confidence in using a sewing machine.

What will I study?

Did you know over 350.000 tons of clothes are going to landfill each year and only every 5th item is being recycled. On an average you only wear 20% of your wardrobe! This course will be a great opportunity to learn a new skill and help the environment.

The first few weeks are more structured, where you will be introduced to how to pin a garment on a person, preparing the item, and carry out the alteration. You will then have a better understanding on the constitution of the garment.
A few of the alterations you will cover are listed below.
- taking in a waist
- taper sides
- shortening of sleeves or cuffs
- shortening hems
- lifting shoulders
- zip replacement

The last few weeks, you will use your creative mind and recycle/upcycle some of your garments. You may wish to dig out some of your unworn clothes:
- changing style of the neckline or sleeves
- adding panels/gussets
- combining 2 garments to create a new look
